This year, the Human Resources department at Farne has been working with local schools, giving business advice and mentoring opportunities to local young people as part of the Enterprise in Education curriculum. Other schemes are planned to continue to work in partnership and provide support for the school, with local communities and for various projects.

Lyons Seafoods respects natural breeding conditions and is involved in ecological and social aid to producing nations. The company has created organic prawn farms in Ecuador and other Latin American countries. It has also participated in reforestation of Ecuador following illegal destruction of mangroves in 1994. Thanks to this reactivation of the ecosystem, the nutritive quality of drained water improved. Lyons Seafoods has also aided families and created prawn-breeding farms in Lampung, Indonesia, providing access to secured credit and support. This action enriched the local community to the point where it has become a true town with a school, a hospital, shops and mosques, and is continuing to develop.
